Emmy-winning actress Sarah Snook appeared on CBS Sunday Morning on March 16 to discuss her latest role in The Picture of Dorian Gray, offering a few surprises along the way.
One of the biggest revelations? The correct pronunciation of her last name. For years, fans, fellow artists, and award presenters have pronounced “Snook” to rhyme with “book” or “look.” However, Snook set the record straight, explaining that her last name should be pronounced with a long “oo” sound, like in the word “zoo.”
In addition, Snook shared that she initially hesitated to audition for the role of Shiv Roy in Succession, the role that brought her global recognition. She admitted that she struggled to connect with the character’s extreme wealth and beauty, saying, “There was nothing in myself that I could see as reflective or accessible in that character.”
Snook also discussed her role in The Picture of Dorian Gray, a unique production that blends cinematic elements with theatre. The play features Snook and a team of camera operators working together to create an immersive experience. Snook, who once performed as a fairy party entertainer for children, reflected on how her career has evolved and how she and director Kip Williams are tackling the project “one day at a time.”
The Picture of Dorian Gray, a new adaptation of the Oscar Wilde novel, began performances on March 10 at the Music Box Theatre, with the official opening set for March 27. Following a successful, sold-out run in London’s West End in 2024, Snook earned an Olivier Award for her performance.
