BabyCenter has released its list of baby names expected to decline in popularity in 2025. Names like Catherine, Jaden, Anne, Phillip, Jamal, and Esteban are among those predicted to become less common.
The names were identified by analyzing registration data from 2023 to 2024. BabyCenter expects these names to fade as Generation Beta babies are born in 2025. Popular millennial names like Erin, Kelsey, and Taylor, as well as royal-inspired names such as Catherine and Edward, have seen sharp drops.
Jaden’s Decline
Jaden, once a popular name, has fallen significantly. After peaking at No. 62 in 2002, it dropped 162 spots in the past year to No. 433. BabyCenter noted that parents seem “jaded on Jaden.”
Common nicknames like Danny, Andy, Liv, Billy, and Katie are also losing favor.
Names Losing Popularity for Girls and Boys
For girls, names like Jamie, Katie, and Remy have dropped significantly. For boys, Jamal, Esteban, and Cannon are seeing the biggest declines.
Most Popular Names in 2025
On the flip side, Noah, Liam, and Oliver are expected to remain popular for boys, while Olivia, Amelia, and Emma lead for girls. BabyCenter also noted a trend of “E” names for boys and names ending in “-lee” or “-lyn” for girls.
