MIAMI (WSVN) – Students at Felix Varela High School in Miami have won a contest to name the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office’s newest horse.
The horse will now be called Valor, a name chosen by the students.
Felix Varela was one of nine schools with Agri-Science programs that participated in the contest. To celebrate their victory, the winning students were given an opportunity to meet the horse in person.
Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz praised the students, noting, “The definition of valor is to be a warrior, to be brave. The funny thing is, the students who named the horse felt that this is who they are, and it’s wonderful to see that come full circle with the Sheriff’s Office.”
As part of the celebration, the students in the Agri-Science program were awarded plaques of valor.
